A lovely 19th century provincial oak dresser with a classic country-house feel. The upper section has three open plate racks through the centre, flanked by glazed cupboard doors on each side. The glass is handmade - you can feel the ripples - giving it that unmistakable early charm.
The base offers three drawers, two panelled cupboards, and a central arched open compartment. In the antiques trade this is often nicknamed a “dog kennel”. Historically, these open sections were used for quick-access kitchen storage, ideal for large pots, jugs, bread or cooling baked items.
The oak has a warm, mellow tone with lovely grain, plenty of age and proper provincial character. A great, practical statement piece for a kitchen, dining room or hallway.
Condition
Age-related marks, scratches and wear throughout. Old repairs, scuffs to the feet, internal wear to shelves and drawer bases, and natural colour variations in the oak. Some age shrinkage, knocks and typical surface use. The handmade glass shows ripples and light scratches as expected. A solid, honest dresser with loads of charm.
