A beautifully composed 19th-century silhouette depicting a family scene – a seated gentleman, standing woman, and child in profile. This original cutwork or reverse-painted silhouette is mounted on paper and housed in its likely original oak frame with old brass hanging rings and early wire fixings. There is faint pencil inscription beneath the figures. The quality and detailing suggest it may have been created by or in the style of a noted silhouette artist of the early 1800s. The paper has minor foxing and signs of age but remains in solid antique condition. The silhouette itself has good definition and impressive hand detailing, particularly in the clothing. Condition Report: In untouched original condition with signs of age to the paper and frame. Some fading and minor abrasions to the silhouette. Frame is structurally sound and retains its period finish. Please refer to the photographs as part of the description. Approximate Dimensions: Length: 48 cm Width: 37.5 cm Depth: 2 cm A rare and highly decorative example for collectors of Georgian or Victorian silhouettes, folk art, or antique ephemera. Please be aware that this item does show signs of use but that is to be expected considering its age and does add authenticity to the item. Please make sure you study the pictures as these go to making up a large part of the description. Many thanks |
