A decorative Anglo-Burmese military campaign chest / traveling work box crafted from solid, high-grade Burmese teak. Possessing an exquisite rich, deep caramel patina, this piece is heavily reinforced with period flush-fitting brass strapwork, protective corner brackets, and an original brass flush drop-handle on the side.
Originally commissioned by British military officers stationed in Burma, this specific chest is vastly superior to standard utilitarian campaign trunks due to its rare ornamental features:
- Exquisite Lid Decoration: The top of the lid is adorned with delicate, hand-etched fluid brass wire inlay depicting traditional regional scrolling borders and a central medallion.
- Intricate Interior Carving: Opening the chest reveals a spectacular band of traditional Burmese blind fretwork, featuring deeply carved scrolling floral motifs along the interior lid perimeter.
