Beautiful, antique Victorian sideboard.
Dating from the late Victorian early Edwardian period this unit signifies elegance. The interior is fitted with two long drawers flanked by two short drawers, over two short and four tall cupboard doors, raised on bun feet.
A wonderful piece of antique furniture that can lend itself to many uses in the modern home. Think sideboard, tv stand or cocktail cabinet! Inside one drawer had the maker Jas Shoolbred.
James Shoolbred and Co., also known as Jas Shoolbred, was established in the 1820s at 155 Tottenham Court Road. Initially a drapers for the furniture trade, the company transitioned to designing, manufacturing, and selling high-quality furniture in the late 1860s/early 1870s. Their sophisticated designs were influenced by Regency aesthetics, incorporating Greek and Roman styles. Shoolbred's sales catalogue provided Victorian homeowners with guidance on creating aesthetically pleasing room sets. By the 1880s, they had opened London's first large department store on Tottenham Court Road. In the mid-1880s, Shoolbred received a Royal Warrant for their furniture quality. The company ceased trading in 1931.
Condition report-the unit is in used condition with some marks, signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Nothing new or obvious.
