Antique Oak Jardinière Plant Stand by R. A. Lister & Co.
A charming early 20th-century English oak jardinière plant stand by the well-regarded makers R. A. Lister & Co. Ltd. of Dursley, Gloucestershire.
Dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1900–1920, this handsome piece features a traditional coopered oak barrel with attractive copper-coloured metal banding, raised on three elegant splayed supports with shaped upper ends.
The legs are united by a beautifully shaped triangular undertier, providing additional space for displaying a smaller plant or decorative object.
The oak has developed a lovely warm colour, with beautifully pronounced grain and a characterful aged finish. The interior retains its original circular maker’s plaque reading R. A. Lister & Co. Ltd. – Makers – Dursley, England.
Originally designed for displaying indoor plants, this decorative jardinière would look wonderful in a country house hallway, conservatory, sitting room or beside a window, particularly with a fern or trailing houseplant.
An attractive example of traditional English craftsmanship, equally suited to an Arts and Crafts interior, eclectic country home or period property.
Condition Report
Good antique condition, displaying age-related wear, surface marks, variations in colour and a naturally aged finish consistent with its age and previous use.
The metal bands display some tarnishing and patination, complementing the character of the oak. The interior shows evidence of historic use as a planter, including darkening and natural timber movement.
No removable metal liner is present. We recommend using a suitable watertight plant container inside to protect the original wood.
