A handsome 19th-century oak pedestal writing desk, featuring a beautifully worn brown leather inset writing surface with a decorative gilt-tooled border.
The rectangular top has a moulded edge and rounded corners, above three frieze drawers and a further three graduated drawers to each pedestal. All nine drawers are fitted with decorative brass drop handles on flower-shaped backplates, complemented by brass keyhole escutcheons.
The oak displays lovely figuring and a rich, warm colour, with moulded detailing and substantial plinth bases completing the desk. A characterful piece for a traditional study or home office, offering useful storage alongside a generous working surface. Comes apart in three sections for ease of delivery.
Condition
Age-related wear throughout, including surface marks, small knocks and wear around the edges and plinth bases. The leather writing surface has extensive signs of use, including colour variation, surface wear and lines of cracking and creasing. The gilt tooling is partly worn, giving the top its well-used, timeworn appearance. The brass handles have an aged patina. No key and parts of locks are missing.
