A beautiful late Victorian pine chest of drawers, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900.
Constructed predominantly from solid pine and arranged in the traditional configuration of two short drawers over two generous full-width drawers, all standing on a substantial plinth base.
The chest has been stripped back during its lifetime, revealing the wonderfully pale natural pine beneath. It has been left with its timeworn finish rather than overly restored, retaining all the knocks, marks, old paint remnants and variations in colour that give antique pine so much character.
The decorative brass drop handles and keyhole escutcheons complement the stripped pine beautifully. Its relatively low, wide proportions make this a particularly versatile chest — ideal for bedroom storage, a guest room, nursery or even as useful storage in a living space.
A proper old piece of furniture with bags of character and a lovely relaxed country-house/farmhouse appearance.
Condition Report
Good antique condition with age-related wear throughout.
The chest has previously been stripped, leaving a pale natural pine finish. There are numerous historic knocks, scratches, marks, small areas of staining, remnants of old paint and general surface wear, all consistent with its age and previous use.
There is some expected movement and irregularity around the drawer fronts and gaps. The drawers are usable and operate as shown. Decorative brass handles and keyhole escutcheons are fitted. We cannot guarantee that the handles are original to the chest.
No keys are present.
