Antique Regency Mahogany Bow Front Chest Drawers Georgian Inlaid Bedroom

A handsome antique mahogany bow-front chest of drawers dating from the late George III / Regency period.

The chest has the classic arrangement of two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, with an elegant bow front and beautifully figured mahogany throughout.

The top features an attractive figured mahogany veneered panel, framed with fine contrasting line inlay and a darker mahogany border. Further fine stringing and decorative detailing can be seen throughout the piece.

One of the standout features is the wonderful set of decorative brass lion-mask handles and matching escutcheons. The oval backplates feature classical detailing surrounding prominent lion-mask centres, perfectly complementing the Regency character of the chest.

The chest stands on elegant splayed bracket feet with a shaped apron beneath, giving it a particularly attractive and refined profile.

A lovely example of early 19th-century furniture which, despite being around two centuries old, remains an extremely practical piece. The five drawers provide plenty of useful storage, making it ideal as a bedroom chest of drawers while equally suited to a hallway, dressing room or living space.

Condition Report

Good antique condition overall with plenty of character and wear commensurate with its considerable age.

There are various historic marks, knocks and areas of wear to the timber and finish. There is some historic cracking particularly around sections of the upper front rail, together with the natural movement and imperfections expected in furniture of this age.

The brass furniture has developed an attractive aged patina. The handles are consistent with the period and style of the chest, although we cannot guarantee that they are original to the piece.

Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition report.
