Antique Scumbled Pine Blanket Box / Storage Chest Coffee Table

A solid antique pine blanket box dating to the late 19th / early 20th century, finished in an original scumbled decoration. Scumble is a traditional hand-applied faux grain finish, used historically to enhance plain pine by imitating richer woods such as oak or walnut. Over time it develops a depth and patina that simply can’t be replicated with modern paint.

The chest has a hinged lift-up lid, original side carry handles and a central escutcheon to the front. The interior is clean and dry, making it ideal for blanket storage, toys, hallway storage or use at the foot of a bed.

A genuine, usable antique with bags of character — practical, honest and exactly the sort of piece that works effortlessly in both period and modern interiors.

Condition

Good solid condition overall. Structurally sound and sturdy.

There is expected age-related wear throughout including surface scuffs, knocks, rubbing and losses to the scumbled finish, particularly to the lid and base edges. These signs of wear are consistent with age and add to the character of the piece.
