A handsome 19th-century Victorian mahogany writing desk / writing table, beautifully proportioned and full of period character.

The desk features an inset red leather writing surface with gilt-tooled border, above an arrangement of four drawers, all fitted with turned wooden knob handles. The shaped central kneehole is particularly attractive, with carved scrolling detail to either side.

Raised on four elegant turned and tapering legs, the desk has a lovely light appearance and, at just 102cm wide, is a very usable size for a home office, study, bedroom or living space. It would also make a superb hall or console table where a traditional antique desk is wanted without the bulk of a pedestal desk.

The mahogany has developed a warm, rich colour and patina which works beautifully against the old red leather.

Condition Report

Good, solid antique condition with expected signs of age and use throughout.

The mahogany displays knocks, marks and general surface wear consistent with its age. The original/old red leather writing surface is worn and marked. There is a historic repair/patch to one section of the leather, clearly shown in the photographs.
