Late Victorian Pitch Pine Nine-Drawer Kneehole Writing Desk
A handsome late Victorian pitch pine kneehole writing desk, dating to the late 19th century, featuring a rectangular moulded top with an inset writing surface above an arrangement of nine drawers.
The desk features three smaller drawers across the top, with three further graduated drawers to each side of the central kneehole opening, all fitted with decorative metal cup handles.
The warm, rich colour of the pitch pine beautifully highlights the natural grain and character of the timber, while the shaped brackets around the kneehole add to its period appearance.
A substantial and practical piece offering plenty of storage, ideal for a home office, study, library or country house interior. Equally attractive as a characterful desk in a more contemporary setting.
Condition
Good antique condition overall, displaying age-related surface marks, variations in colour, areas of wear and signs of previous use throughout.
The inset writing surface shows wear, including marks, staining, discolouration and areas of surface deterioration, consistent with many years of use.
The timber has an attractive established patina, with some marks and wear around the drawer fronts, edges and base. The drawer interiors show signs of previous use, including areas of staining and ink marks.
The desk retains its nine drawers and decorative handles.
