A handsome antique walnut extending dining table, dating from around the 1920s–1930s.
The table has a beautifully figured walnut top with canted corners and moulded edging, raised on elegant tapered legs with small castors. Its compact square proportions make it particularly useful for smaller dining rooms or kitchens, while the single extension leaf increases the length to 147.5cm, comfortably seating up to six.
Originally operated by a wind-out mechanism, this has previously been adapted so the table now extends manually. The two ends simply pull apart to allow the separate leaf to be fitted, so no winding handle is required.
A practical and attractive period table with plenty of genuine character.
Condition Report
In good, solid and usable antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The top has scratches, small marks, colour variation and general signs of use. There is noticeable wear, scuffing and loss of finish to the legs and edges, as photographed.
The separate extension leaf is slightly darker than the main tabletop, which is common where a leaf has been stored away and used less frequently. The table was originally wind-out but has been converted to a manual pull-out action. It extends and closes as it should.
