A rare matching pair of antique riveted galvanised garden planters, originally made as large agricultural water tanks.
Constructed from heavy-gauge galvanised metal, each tank features traditional riveted seams, reinforced edges and a naturally weathered zinc surface developed through decades of use. Their substantial rectangular proportions make them ideal for repurposing as large garden planters, raised flower beds, decorative troughs or statement olive tree pots.
This well-matched pair would look particularly impressive positioned on either side of a farmhouse entrance, porch or gateway, or used together along a terrace, courtyard or within a large country garden. They would also make striking planters for pubs, restaurants, hotels and commercial displays.
Original riveted galvanised troughs of this size are becoming increasingly difficult to find, while a closely matched pair is especially uncommon.
Condition
Good, solid antique condition with extensive age-related wear consistent with their original agricultural use.
Both tanks display surface oxidation, weathering, discolouration, scratches, old paint remnants and general use marks. There are historic repairs and alterations, including patched areas and previous fixing points. These are secure and form part of the tanks’ authentic working history and industrial character.
The tanks have not been tested for water tightness. They are being sold for use as garden planters. Drainage holes or internal liners may be required depending on the intended planting scheme.
