Victorian Mahogany Twin Pedestal Desk for Home Office & Study

 

A mid-Victorian mahogany twin pedestal writing desk of excellent proportions, dating to circa 1850–1870.


The desk features a gilt-tooled leather inset writing surface above an arrangement of nine drawers — three across the top and three graduated drawers to each pedestal. The rounded front corners soften the form beautifully and give it that unmistakable mid-Victorian presence.


The mahogany has a rich, warm tone with lovely grain throughout. The brass handles are traditional swan neck style and sit well against the colour of the timber.


It comes apart into three sections (top and two pedestals), making it far easier to manoeuvre upstairs or into tighter spaces.


Condition


Structurally solid and sturdy.


The leather inset is original and shows age-related wear, surface marks and areas of patina consistent with use (as photographed). The gilded tooling is still visible and presents well overall.


General knocks, marks and wear throughout consistent with a mid-19th century piece. Drawer runners are good and drawers open as they should. Some historic wear internally as expected. Does not lock.


Overall good, honest antique condition with character.
