A charming late Victorian walnut and brass mounted coal purdonium, dating to the late 19th century.
Featuring a beautifully aged walnut case with shaped sides, a sloping hinged front and decorative brass fittings. The top is fitted with an ornate brass carrying handle, while the rear retains its original-style brass coal shovel, neatly housed in a fitted holder.
The hinged front opens to reveal a removable galvanised metal coal liner with carrying handle, allowing for easy filling and emptying.
A wonderfully characterful piece of Victorian fireside furniture, displaying a rich, warm patina developed through generations of use.
Perfect beside a traditional fireplace, log burner or as a decorative addition to a country house interior.
Condition Report
Good antique condition with age-related surface marks, variations in colour and wear to the finish, all consistent with its age and use. The brass fittings display an attractive aged patina, while the removable metal liner shows signs of previous use and oxidation. The hinged front opens and closes, and the original-style brass shovel is included.
