Vintage 1960s Turnidge London Teak Metamorphic Cocktail Bar Drinks Cabinet

A fantastic original 1960s teak metamorphic cocktail bar by Turnidge of London.

One of Turnidge’s cleverest mid-century designs, this looks like a relatively compact drinks cabinet when closed but completely transforms for entertaining. The sides swing out and the top folds open, taking it from just 83cm wide to an impressive 159cm serving bar.

The curved front has twin doors with recessed teak handles, opening to reveal generous internal storage for bottles, glasses and barware. To the rear are sliding glass doors, allowing everything inside to be accessed while standing behind the bar.

Once opened, the top reveals the wonderfully retro patterned serving surface with inset glazed viewing panel, creating a proper home cocktail bar rather than simply a drinks cabinet.

A particularly nice feature is the survival of several of the original cocktail accessories and fittings to the inside of the doors, together with the internal shelving, bottle rails and original lighting arrangement.

A brilliant piece of British mid-century furniture that’s both genuinely useful and great fun — compact enough to live happily against a wall when not required, then ready to transform when the questionable guests arrive.

Condition Report

Good original vintage condition with age-related wear, marks and surface scratches consistent with use and age. There is wear to the top and around the hinged sections, together with various small marks to the cabinet. The original internal lighting and wiring are present but have not been tested and should be checked by a suitably qualified person before use.
