A superb vintage Ercol Dorchester Model 946 extending dining table, beautifully made in solid elm and beech and retaining Ercol’s wonderfully rich traditional finish.
This is the large three-leaf version of the Dorchester and is an incredibly versatile table. Starting at a very manageable 161cm, three individual extension leaves allow it to be increased in stages right up to an impressive 252.5cm.
The unused leaves cleverly store beneath the tabletop, so there’s no need to find a cupboard for them, always a big plus with extending tables.
The solid elm top has Ercol’s characteristic grain and softly rounded edges, sitting above a substantial twin-pedestal base with turned supports, stretcher and splayed feet. The original Ercol badge remains present.
A fantastic family dining table that can be kept relatively compact day-to-day and then turned into a seriously substantial entertaining table when everyone descends at Christmas.
Seating guide: approximately 6 people closed, 8 with one leaf, 8–10 with two leaves and around 10–12 fully extended.
Condition Report
In good vintage condition, presenting particularly well for its age. The tabletop retains a lovely even colour and attractive elm grain, with general light signs of previous use commensurate with age. The extension mechanism and three removable leaves are present, and the leaves store beneath the tabletop when not required.
