A fantastic original vintage Continental gymnastics springboard / beating board, a great piece of traditional British school and gymnasium equipment.
Manufactured by Continental, the board has a substantial laminated plywood construction with a sprung curved upper platform, rubber spring/buffer supports and a padded grey carpet-covered take-off surface. It retains the original CONTINENTAL maker’s label to the front.
These boards were traditionally used in schools and gymnasiums to provide the take-off or rebound for vaulting and other gymnastics exercises – the sort of PE equipment instantly recognisable to anyone of a certain age!
A brilliant survivor with a lovely utilitarian appearance. As well as being collectible vintage sporting equipment, it would make an unusual decorative piece for a gym, sports club, school-themed interior, shop display, prop or commercial setting.
Condition Report
Good solid vintage condition with age and use-related wear throughout. There are marks and general wear to the timber and carpeted surface, together with wear and losses to the red protective covering at one end, as photographed. The sprung construction remains responsive.
